Tea-plucker in a tea-garden in Assam, North East
Tea plucker at a plantation in Assam. Tea- plucking is a delicate job. In Assam it is left to the deft hands of the females of the `Baaganiya' community. They are non-Assamese in ethnicity and were brought in by the early British Tea- planters from states like Orissa. This one in the picture was a particularly fast plucker and her hands were indeed a blur.:-)
