The Naga dancers at the Hornbill festival,Kohima, Nagaland, india
The Hornbill festival at Kohima works for lazy journalists like myself who can gather as much info or pictures one can at the easy comfort of a government organized festival saving us the task of meeting the real people back in the villages. For the authentic Naga experience one has to go deep into the state where permission has to be sought from the chieftain before one can step into a village. The chieftains were once celebrated head-hunters and meeting them presented the real danger of loosing your own head. The Nagas in this pictures are educated city-bread men. In the centre is Tali Longchar who said he did BA in english and is an english teacher in a Nagaland school
